Human and Technology in the Workplace: Legal and Social Perspectives

Background

In response to the 2027 International Conference on Education, Law and Institutional Adaptation, this symposium provides a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences among academics and practitioners in the workplace. The relationship between humans and technology in the workplace is dynamic and shaped by a variety of factors. New technologies have a significant impact on human work, contributing to increased productivity and improved working conditions, while also posing new challenges and risks.The automation of work processes and the use of complex algorithms, particularly in the performance of routine tasks, require employees to constantly adapt to changing conditions and acquire new skills. These processes promote worker mobility, for which national borders lose their significance. Consequently, these changes are transforming the daily lives of employees and employers worldwide.

Emerging challenges in this area are monitored, discussed, and addressed through decision-making processes at both the national and international levels. However, technological progress is outpacing the existing political, legal, and organisational frameworks, which are increasingly being regarded as inadequate. Labor protection in the 21st century requires political, legal, and organizational solutions that are responsive to emerging needs. Existing legal systems are shaped by demographic pressures, technological transformation, and a variety of other political, social, and economic factors. Labor law, legal policy, and social change form a dynamic system in which global technological and economic trends interact (sometime clash) with national regulations and labor market needs.

Goal/Rationale

The aim of the symposium is to examine specific issues within this field and identify the benefits and risks arising from the relationship between humans and technology in the workplace amid dynamic change. This multidimensional approach seeks to highlight the scale of the challenges arising, among other things, from technological transformation and an attempt an answer to questions such as: How should workplace protection evolve to enhance the opportunities and benefits of technology for human work, including safety, efficiency, and flexibility, while also responding to emerging needs and risks affecting the labour market, employee health, and well-being? Which opportunities and risks are strategic in nature?

The symposium will therefore adopt an interdisciplinary approach, taking into account perspectives from the social sciences and humanities.
